Greg left yesterday for his first Annual Training weekend with the Texas State Guard. He was really excited to really get into deep training. He is gone for four days. Four days of HORRIFIC Texas heat and all kinds of interesting training. When I talked to him yesterday evening they had just ended all their meetings and it was about 10:30. He was put on "Fire Watch" from 2-4am and was to get up at 5:30 for the day.
I'm sure you're curious what "fire watch" is, I know I was! Apparently they don't have smoke detectors in the barracks, so they rotate on two man shifts to watch for fires. If you ask me, I think it's just a way to make them get up in the middle of the night and do something :) But, they only have to do it once all weekend, so he's glad to have it out of the way.
Tomorrow they are being visited by the Officer over all of The TXSG, who report to the Governor, so after their 14 hour day of training (with two very sick from heat exhaustion) they have to prepare their barracks for inspection.
Yeah, he's gonna be exhausted when he gets home on Sunday! But he's really enjoying it, and that's what's important!
He looks good, doesn't he?
